SVWTP Expansion Project

Description:

The SFPUC is proposing to construct a new raw water Ozonation Facility and associated site improvements at the existing Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant (SVWTP) that are necessary to mitigate taste and odor events at SVWTP, provide additional primary disinfection with ozone, and improve treatment reliability. Additional improvements include demolition of existing facilities where new facilities would be located, new yard piping and modifications, a new access road, new metering pumps and pump replacement, and electrical power supply modifications and improvements outside the SVWTP. Please refer to attached map of project components. Other improvements that would occur at the SVWTP include the construction of a new Polymer Feed Facility to address turbidity issues during high flow rates at each of the five sedimentation basins as well as the following short and long term site improvements: -Remodeling, structural, heating and cooling improvements to existing buildings -Repair and upgrade of concrete and coatings at sedimentation basins and tank farm, washwater tanks, sludge and chemical system piping and valves -Replacement of leaking drain valves and expansion joints around settled water pipes and repair of corrosion around scour and chlorine contact piping -Installation of new washdown system, washwater pumps, air monitors, lighting, communication systems, emergency eyewash station, and fire suppression for existing facilities -Repair and replace bird netting at existing basins and filters -Replacement of an approx. 50' tall lattice structure microwave tower with new tower -Roadway improvements around the plant -Installation of new voltage regulators on existing 21kV distribution lines feeding the SVWTP The project has also identified a potential temporary staging area to support construction to the north of the SVWTP as shown on the attached map.
