More Details The scope of work of the project is the addition, removal and/or replacement of multiple broadcast antennas on all three antenna supports of Sutro Tower, multiple ancillary antennas throughout the tower, and replacement of one antenna support to accommodate a new antenna configuration and meet upgraded building code requirements, all in support of FCC repacking requirements to allow reassignment of some radio frequency spectrums from television to other services as more specifically detailed on the list of antenna changes shown on the drawings submitted to DBI and the documents previously submitted to the Planning Department.
Such upgrades would not include any permanent cladding removal. However, cladding on two of the three legs at locations between levels four and six will be temporarily removed and reinstalled for access to the tower structure. Each panel is currently attached with self-tapping screws or bolts which need to be removed by hand. Any removed panel would be lowered to the ground via cable and stored on-site until it can be replaced onto the tower. At such time, each panel would lifted into place and reattached by hand with similar bolts being reinserted into the prior hole. Such panels would be removed for the duration of the project with an estimated timeline of an additional six months to reinstall the cladding after completion of the improvements.
