SFMTA_West Portal Station Safety and Community Space Improvements
Description:
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) proposes to implement the West Portal Station Safety and Community Space Improvements Project. The proposed project is a suite of changes to improve traffic safety within the West Portal neighborhood, including near the West Portal Muni Metro station at Ulloa Street and West Portal Avenue. Proposed changes include restricting northbound left-turn movements on West Portal Avenue at Ulloa Street, restricting westbound through movements on Ulloa Street at West Portal, making Lenox Way one-way southbound between Taraval and Ulloa Street, restricting southbound left tuns on West Portal at Vicente Street, and designating full-time Muni lanes at the following locations: • West Portal Avenue, northbound, from Ulloa Street to 230’ southerly • West Portal Avenue, southbound, from Ulloa Street to 120’ southerly • Ulloa Street, westbound, between West Portal Avenue and Lenox Way The half circle outside the station entrance (referred to as the “horseshoe”) would be re-designed to visually enhance the station entrance and improve safety by providing more room for pedestrians to access the station. Additionally, new traffic calming measures would be implemented on several neighborhood streets as well as other minor changes. An alternative project element would include restricting eastbound through movements on Ulloa Street at West Portal Avenue.
